With so much depending on the infrastructure systems below our towns and cities, it is absolutely imperative that pipes stay in top condition. As infrastructure around the world ages, regular pipe maintenance and inspection have become even more important.
Remotely operated vehicles, or ROVs, provide an excellent method for pipe inspection. With the DT320 and the DT340, Deep Trekker offers crawlers that are ideally suited for the challenges of inspecting municipal pipes.
Submersible up to 50 metres, Deep Trekker’s pipe crawlers are powered by lithium ion batteries, meaning that no generator or dedicated vehicle is required topside. Easily portable and incredibly durable, the high resolution 700 TVL camera is rated for low light scenarios and paired with super bright LED floodlights to give you the best picture possible. Rated for pipes 6” in diameter and up, the Deep Trekker pipe crawlers are effective in a variety of pipe materials including concrete, clay, PVC, corrugated steel, cast iron and brick. Screw on add ons mean that you can quickly customize your ROV for whatever scenario you are facing.
There are many options available to suit your ROV needs. Read on to find out what is best for you and your job!
While you can easily swap out tracks for wheels and vice versa, one decision you have to make for each job is whether tires or tracks would be the most effective for you. Track kits are most effective in pipes 24” in diameter or larger, where obstacles or driving terrain is difficult. The tracks can easily navigate through mud, gravel, sand, dirt, water, sewage and other debris where wheels can be slowed or stopped. In materials like corrugated steel, tracks will provide a smoother video than wheels will.
Carbide grit wheels are a great option for getting serious traction in smooth pipes. These heavy, specialized wheels get their grip from the extremely hard and durable carbide, broken into sharp, angular pieces. Available in 8” or 10” options, carbide grit wheels are ideal for pipes like PVC or clay where high traction is a necessity for getting the job done.

As a trusted provider of standard-compliant inspection software for CCTV camera inspections, WinCan integrations are a serious asset to pipe inspecting ROVs. At Deep Trekker we offer three integration packages; lite, advanced and expert.
Perfect for getting started on main line inspections, the lite package allows users to video record from the crawler in the WinCan software program, record defects and pipe features, and generate industry standard pipe inspection reports in multiple languages. The advanced package is similar to the Lite package but also includes the ability to include manhole and lateral evaluations as part of your recording. The most in-depth package of all is the expert package. The Geographical Information Systems (GIS) visualizes pipe inspections on a map or grid complete with heat mapping to identify trouble areas. The visualization and ranking of damaged areas makes prioritization simpler and less complex. WinCan also allows you to build an estimation tool, where users can provide a diagnosis, repair options and a quote all within the same software.
With so many customizations available, Deep Trekker is sure to have the ROV to suit your pipe inspection needs. Our team is here to help. Learn more about Deep Trekker or contact an industry specialist today!
