As we celebrate our first decade of Deep Trekker we’re looking back at just how far we’ve come! The last 10 years have been full of growth and we’re thrilled to share our favourite innovations over the last decade.
The DTG2 is where everything really started for the Deep Trekker team! Our first swimming vehicle, the DTG2 paved the way for our vehicles lines from ROVs to pipe crawlers to utility crawlers.
Based on a clean sheet design, the DTG3 ROV was officially introduced in August of 2011 and we haven’t looked back since!
The Deep Trekker REVOLUTION is a completely re-imagined ROV. This mission-ready ROV offers greater payload capabilities, deeper depths, and advanced stabilization. REVOLUTION is the most intuitive and stable ROV for underwater surveys and inspections, built tough to survive harsh underwater conditions to accomplish complex missions. The patented pending revolving head allows operators to rotate the camera, manipulators, and sonar 260° all while station holding in moving water. The 6 vectored thrusters allow for lateral movement side to side and precise turning forward and backward, providing maximum control and advanced station keeping.
The introduction of the REVOLUTION changed the game at Deep Trekker and we’re excited to continue moving forward.
One of our most recent innovations is perhaps our biggest one to date! Earlier in 2020 we introduced the REVOLUTION NAV package, our first semi-autonomous ROV.
The REVOLUTION NAV provides users with real time location data making locating, tracking and operating an ROV easier than ever before. Advanced stabilization features allow users to station hold against currents and pilot their vehicle precisely and accurately through varying water conditions. Furthermore, the REVOLUTION NAV package gives users the ability to monitor the ROV's trail as it moves through the water on a Google Map, while also allowing operators to set waypoints and track data over time. It also gives pilots autonomous capabilities such as station holding in current, altitude holding and will eventually pave the way to a hybrid autonomous vehicle with waypoint navigation capabilities.
Deep Trekker's Bridge software utilizes the various sensor data from IMUs, DVLs, USBLs and more to help the ROV hold its position and travel to new locations more precisely by feeding off of each other's data. The sensors are optimized and compensated as more intelligence is added to the vehicle.
The REVOLUTION NAV quite simply wouldn’t be possible without our groundbreaking BRIDGE Technology. BRIDGE is a result of intuitive engineering and listening to what our customers have to say. It is an intelligent technology platform; an operating system designed with custom hardware and software; for control, integration, communication and enhanced operation.
With an improved intelligence platform, BRIDGE technology has the capability to integrate with current and future third-party products. Furthermore, even in rough conditions, the BRIDGE platform allows for stable and clear HD video.
BRIDGE technology allows our team to enhance operation capabilities with a seamless technology platform for all Deep Trekker underwater robots.
The specially designed vertical precision thruster kit utilizes the intelligent BRIDGE system to maintain depth in the water column and allow the DTG3 to perform precise vertical movements and inspections.
Designed to take on difficult vertical infrastructure, wall or line inspections while depth holding, the Precision Thruster allows for straightforward and convenient use of the DTG3.
The launch of our DT640 Magnetic Crawler was incredibly exciting for the Deep Trekker team as it allowed us to provide our customers with a reliable way to perform hull inspections or get a look at difficult spaces such as vertical shafts.
Built with magnetic wheels to stick to ferrous surfaces, the MAG Crawler can be adapted to do a multitude of tasks including hull inspection, integrity testing, and power washing. The strong magnetic wheels allow the vehicle to crawl vertical angles, even underwater, making hull inspection much more straightforward and accessible.
2017 saw Deep Trekker integrate the use of two multibeam sonars to both the DTG2 and the DT640 Mag Crawler. Creating the ability to perform side-scanning as well as search in low visibility, those original sonars paved the way for Deep Trekker’s current sonar lineup.
Our wide variety of imaging sonars are available on a multitude of vehicles to complete tasks from search and recovery to hull inspection. Our initial sonar integration also paved the way to the integration of our current positioning tools such as USBL and DVL.
Deep Trekker was thrilled to be recognized in 2017 for the DT340 Pipe Crawler. The North American Society for Trenchless Technology presented Deep Trekker with the award for "Leader in Innovation" at the 2017 No Dig Show in D.C. It was a great honor to have the DT340 Pipe Crawler marked as an industry leader, and the hard work of our team of engineers recognized by such a prestigious association.
NASTT annually recognizes two companies with state-of-the-art products in either new installation or rehabilitation for their achievements in advancing the trenchless industry. In October 2010, NASTT re-named these prestigious awards in honor of the late Joseph L. Abbott Jr. Joseph was an active member of the society since its inception in 1990.
The DT340 proved to be a cost effective and convenient solution for buried infrastructure inspections, especially for municipalities facing lack of accessibility and tight budgets.
Designed to inspect pipes from 6” to 12” in diameter, the DT320 Mini Pipe Crawler allows operators to conduct storm and wastewater inspections without the need for topside power.
Built for municipal pipe inspections, the DT340 Pipe Crawler is completely submersible and self-contained. Battery operated to last between up to 8 hours on a single charge, the DT340 does not need additional equipment, trucks or generators and is contained in just one Pelican case.
Don’t let its size fool you! The DT320 Mini is constructed with anodized die-cast aluminum, stainless steel and a sapphire glass camera lens. It is built to withstand the daily grind of sewer and stormwater pipe inspections.
2019 was a big year for Deep Trekker as it marked the opening of Deep Trekker SpA. Located in Puerto Montt, Los Lagos, the Chilean office strengthens the Deep Trekker presence in Chile and manages the distribution of Deep Trekker products and services to the Latin American market. Deep Trekker SpA offers our complete range of submersible products, technical support, training services and customer service.
With the aquaculture industry in Chile being the third largest in the world, making up 12% of global production, Deep Trekker is committed to supporting aquaculture with purpose-built robots that will continue to address the small and large tasks from monitoring to inspection.
The last decade has brought about tremendous innovation for Deep Trekker. We look forward to what the next 10 years will bring for the Deep Trekker team!
